Happy Friendship Day: A Walk Through Inspiring Friendships.
From legendary friendships of Krishna- Kuchela and Arjuna- Krishna, to Virginia Woolf- Katherine Mansfield, Helen Keller-Anne Sullivan, and fictional friendships like Sherlock Holmes-John Watson as well as Harry Potter, and his friends, the one thing that all of these people have in common is a profound companionship that gave meaning to their lives.
Brotherhood, kindness, understanding, and tenderness are reflected in the story of Kuchela, who brought Krishna a modest gift of dried rice but forgot to ask for Krishna’s help before leaving and returning home only to find Krishna had accomplished more than what Kuchela had intended to ask of him. Krishna and Kuchela’s exemplary friendship is a wonderful reminder of true friendship surpassing social inequalities of wealth, caste and creed. Being there for each other in good times and the bad is a key takeaway from their relationship.
Krishna was a philosopher, mentor and above all a friend to Arjuna. He guided Arjuna and encouraged him to be the best at what he wanted to do. The questions and doubts of Arjuna, and Krishna’s answers to them, is the narrative of Bhagavad Gita, the book that continues to guide our civilization.
Virginia Woolf and Katherine Mansfield were great friends but also competed against one another to be the best writers in the world. Oprah Winfrey once said “What I know for sure is that if you can survive 11 days in cramped quarters with a friend and come out laughing, your friendship is the real deal. I know ours is “ about her deep friendship with Gayle King.
Anne Sullivan was initially Helen Keller’s teacher, and the two women forged a lifelong friendship. Helen Keller is a beacon of inspiration as she fought against all odds to become the first blind person to ever get a bachelor’s degree and write twelve books and several articles. Anne Sullivan is the friend and mentor who helped achieve these impossible feats through her friendship and support.
John H. Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ friend who assisted him in solving crimes, was a friend whose companionship brought out the best in Sherlock Holmes. Apart from their quirky and entertaining connection, they were always supportive of one another and understood their needs.
The iconic Harry Potter characters Harry, Ron, and Hermione were close friends who treated each other like family, had a great deal of faith in one another, and worked together to solve issues. Together, they were a daring trio, whose power came from their ability to stand together against any evil. They were always there for each other through thick and thin.
